Features to know about

Know When Your Brakes Are Actually Working: Reliable Brake Signal Detection

When you’re towing, guessing whether your supplemental braking system is working can lead to damage or dangerous stops. The Roadmaster Stop Light Switch Kit ties directly into the towed vehicle’s fuse box to send a true brake signal to your motorhome’s monitor system whenever the pedal is pressed. Unlike systems that only read air cylinder movement, this one reads the actual pedal position so you know the brakes are really being applied. It’s a simple 12-volt setup that gives you confidence that your braking system is doing its job every mile.

Protects Against Hidden Brake Pressure: Prevents Continuous Pedal Engagement

An improperly set up braking system can keep pressure on the pedal even when you’re not braking, wearing down tires and the braking system itself. The Stop Light Switch Kit helps you avoid that by accurately detecting when the pedal is depressed and when it’s fully released. If something is misadjusted or the brake is dragging, you’ll know right away through your monitor, so you can fix it before costly damage occurs.

Built for Clean, Secure Installs: Custom Bracket and Solid Connection

The kit wires directly into the fuse box for steady current and includes a custom mounting bracket that fits right where it should. Reviewers liked how the bracket lined up and how the switch could be easily adjusted for depth, even in tight spaces under the dash. Once tightened down, it stays put and gives a solid, consistent signal every time you hit the brakes.

A Must-Have Link for Modern Tow Setups: Seamless Compatibility with Monitor Systems

Many newer vehicles no longer provide a usable stop light circuit, which makes this kit essential when adding a supplemental braking system or wireless monitor. It’s designed to feed the proper brake signal to your RV’s indicator light or wireless transmitter, keeping everything synchronized. For anyone setting up a complete flat-tow system, it’s the missing piece that makes the whole braking connection work smoothly.

What You Need to Flat Tow

Flat towing can be a much more convenient way to take your car RVing with you than using a trailer or a tow dolly. It'll save you storage space both at home and at the campsite, and it takes less time and hassle to hook up.

To flat tow your vehicle, there are 5 basic components you're going to need: a tow bar, a base plate kit, a safety cable set, tow bar wiring, and a flat tow braking system.

For the RV Between the RV and Towed Car For the Towed Car
Hitch Tow bar Base plate
Wiring plug Safety cables Braking system
Wiring adapter cord Wiring kit/diodes

The custom-fit base plate installs on the frame of your toad so you can connect the car to your RV with a tow bar. Hook up safety cables between the vehicles to ensure that the toad does not separate from the motorhome if the tow bar becomes detached. Tow bar wiring syncs your vehicle's signal lights with your motorhome's tail lights, as required by law in most states. Finally, the flat tow braking system - also required in most states - activates the brakes in the toad when you hit the brakes in the RV, making for smoother, safer braking, and preventing wear on your motorhome.

Braking system still working well!

by:

Everything Installed and worked well. Towed my Grand Cherokee Back from California with no problems.

by:

Every thing needed was included. You need to be a bit of a contortionist but if this 75 year old can install it you can.

by:

Upon the recommendation of one of your towing specialists, I ordered every component that I needed to flat tow my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee behind my 2013 Newmar Bay Star motorhome. I got the necessary Roadmaster tow bar and other accessories plus the SMI Stay-IN-Play braking system. I have towed over 5000 miles so far without any significant issues. Hook up is straight-forward and takes about 15 minutes to complete. I couldn't be happier with the towing experience!

by:

instructions could have been better.

by:

A necessity for the towing application. It works perfectly.

by:

Nice switch, used this as an add on switch for brake controller for 2018 Jeep Compass

by:

Great product. Works great. Installation was a little tricky for my Jeep Grand Cherokee but we figured it out.

by:

Unit worked well, fit nicely. Was awkward for me to install because of location under dash, but bracket was designed well fit right up.

by:

Instructions were clear making the installation relatively easy. Parts fit like they were supposed to.

by:

Exact items needed for 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee installation of alternative braking system.

by:

Bracket came with one undersized bolt and nut. The bracket it attached to had two holes. If the bracket was longer and had another bolt it would be more stable.

I recommend looking at the video installation that we have on a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee starting at mark 2:18. You can see the bracket location and that it uses a five sixteenth by three quarter inch bolt.

by:

Works as it should, a little difficult to install (physically), but had to have it for my application, well made and quality parts.

@Gregory We're glad to hear the your Roadmaster # RM-751449 stop light switch is working well for you!

by:

Working like a champ! Install was a breeze with etrailer. Can't believe that I was on the road without a TOAD brake.

by:

Instructions in the kit and video on the website were very complete and made for a very easy installation. Suggestion to Roadmaster on the bracket....make some sort of positive location tab for the bracket because the location is only made secure by the tightening of the bolt. Also, the way the Jeep bracket that you bolt to is designed, there's no way to get a wrench or socket to hold the backside bolt head. Maybe come up with something to keep it from spinning.

by:

Used it for the brake activation light in my towed vehicle. Easily adjustable as far as depth . Positioning took a little work but the bracket is specific to a vehicle other than mine.

by:

All of the etrailer.com products I have purchased were perfect. The shipping was right on time. I have told several of my friends and acquaintances about etrailer.com.

by:

Easy to install. This product is a lifesaver! My JGC WK did not have the tow package installed, so it had no connection for an EBC. This product gave me the stoplight switch connection I needed! It took about 20 minutes to install and adjust. Thanks!

by:

Always great doing business with the experts at Etrailer!

by:

Patrick went above and beyond in locating the components needed to outfit my jeep for 4 flat towing...etrailer also had the best price,no tax and free quick shipping.highly recommend them.best joe b

  • Parts Needed to Flat Tow 2014-2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee
In order to flat tow your Jeep Grand Cherokee behind an RV you need a base plate kit, a tow bar, safety cables, a lighting solution, a supplemental braking system, and likely a high-low adapter. Starting with the base plates, I recommend the Roadmaster EZ5 Base Plate Kit # RM-521440-5. If this isn’t your first time flat towing, let me know if there are any parts you want to carry over to the Jeep, and I can make sure to let you know what you need to do that. You are correct that there are quite a few parts necessary to flat tow your 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee behind your motorhome but I'll be happy to list everything you'll need. As you mentioned, you'll need base plates, and the Roadmaster EZ5 # RM-521440-5 is a confirmed fit for your Jeep so long as it is not an SRT-8 model, which since you listed this part I assume it is not. It's also compatible with all Roadmaster base plate kits. The base plate kit I suggest is the Roadmaster EZ4 # RM-521440-4. It's designed specifically for your 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited.
